Maybe a "one bad accident" and replace - but so worth it

Unlike the hard foam-lined helmets, this has a honeycomb matrix of collapsible, brittle plastic. If it gets "actually" used, you will know it. Get a new helmet, with gratitude. The other cool thing is that in 9 mos. of the year, the ventilation is top-notch. In the winter/cold, you will need a h...

Disappointed with Fit and Comfort

I was really excited to get a new WaveCel Helmet and happy that they had the Starvos in XL. Unfortunately, the XL headmaster felt crazy uncomfortable and sat really high....unwearable. it was almost like it was an XL helmet with a Large Headmaster unit...even when dialed to max size. I have a big h...

This helmet is incredibly heavy and poor quality. For me the ratchet broke almost instantly and I couldn't undo the helmet at all. The ratchet is made of cheap plastic. Also Trek was sued for WaveCel. I wouldn't recommend this garbage to anyone.

Once I figured out how to adjust the straps inside the helmet (why didn't I read the instructions first?), it fit to a tee. I had read in a review somewhere that the WaveCel stuff is good, so that's a plus. My one caveat: the chin strap buckle is a tough squeeze to unfasten, and thus hard on my ancient, arthritic thumb and finger.

Several years ago I traded in my old 30+year Bell helment for a Bontrager Starvos. Had a bad crash a month ago, hit my head, badly dented the helmet - and walked away OK. Just bought a new one!

The helmet fits well and appears to be well manufactured. All evidence points to fact this technology is best available. Would rate higher except that wind makes an uncomfortable whistling sound as it goes through the honeycomb wavecel. Could only correct by putting pieces of foam in vent ports on side of helmet.

This is the second Starvos helmet I bought. Had a crash wearing it and it worked just like it was supposed to--saved my brain even when I broke a rib. And I think it looks good. I think its a great helmet at a reasonable price.

Seems like you should have to crash to rate a helmet but thankfully I don't have that experience. Helmet is comfy and well vented. Very happy so far.
